Hair Care 101
Caring for your hair is much more than a simple shampoo and condition. Find out what you need to set your hair up for spectacular style.
-
- Tip01
- When applying TRESemmé Clean & Natural Shampoo, dispense half the amount you would normally use, and apply to the roots. Rinse out, then apply the other half of the shampoo to the bottom half of the head, and wash out. This ensures that shampoo reaches the whole head - from the roots through the ends. Women tend to focus on just the roots when applying shampoo. Finish with TRESemmé Clean & Natural Conditioner.
-
- Tip02
- Dullness often means there is buildup on your hair. Use a clarifying shampoo like TRESemmé Deep Cleansing Shampoo at least once a week to remove any product residue or dirt.
-
- Tip03
- Get a cut—uneven layers and split ends make hair look dull and unhealthy. Go in for a trim every six weeks to two months.
-
- Tip04
- Conditioner residue is the enemy of a great style. Before styling your hair yourself, make sure to rinse all of the conditioner out of your hair in the shower. When you feel like you’ve finished rinsing, rinse again. Stylists in the salon rinse your hair several times—you should too!
-
- Tip05
- When showering, use lukewarm water, not extra hot. Hot water is drying and can leave your scalp feeling tight.
-
- Tip06
- No matter what hair texture you have, always comb conditioner through your hair in the shower with a wide-tooth come. It will detangle and smooth your hair before styling.
-
- Tip07
- Don't use shampoos and conditioners that aren't suited for your hair type. To get the best setup for styling, pick products that meet your specific needs. If you have normal hair, use a gentle daily shampoo and conditioner like TRESemmé Clean & Natural Shampoo and Clean & Natural Conditioner.
-
- Tip08
- Never skip conditioner. Your hair needs the moisture of conditioner to keep it strong and healthy. If you don't like the feeling of cream conditioners, use a lightweight leave-in spray on damp hair.
-
- Tip09
- Don’t skip conditioner when washing because when you use shampoo, hair is stripped of oils, making hair appear dry and lifeless.
-
- Tip10
- By applying extra conditioner, this does not mean your hair will be extra conditioned – hair only absorbs as much conditioner as it needs.
-
- Tip11
- Apply a little conditioner to wet hair to detangle, then comb through to condition the rest of the hair.
-
- Tip12
- After shampooing your hair, always use conditioner. Heat styling can zap your hair of moisture, so conditioning is crucial. Be sure to rinse the conditioner well — otherwise, it can cause product buildup that will prevent you from getting the style you want.
-
- Tip13
- Wash your hair every other day with TRESemmé Moisture Rich Shampoo and Moisture Rich Conditioner to prevent excess dryness. If you have to wash your hair every day, just use TRESemmé Moisture Rich Conditioner in place of the shampoo every other day.
-
- Tip14
- Deep condition your hair once a week to lock in moisture. Apply a deep conditioning treatment on damp hair and get into a hot shower — the heat will help to activate the conditioner.
-
- Tip15
- Apply a leave-in conditioner all over damp hair and pull it into a loose bun while it dries to smooth and reduce frizz.
-
- Tip16
- Don’t skip conditioning, even if your hair tends to be oily or you have a short cut. Conditioning helps prevent split ends and damage from styling. If you’re worried about too much moisture, apply conditioner to just your ends every other day.
-
- Tip17
- Avoid washing hair with extremely hot water; it can be drying for your scalp and your hair. Warm or cool water is gentler.
-
- Tip18
- Try not to shampoo every day — curly hair tends to be coarser, and washing too often can deplete your hair's moisture. If you must shower, use conditioner in place of shampoo on alternating days.
