Unilever follows the guidelines of the US Food & Drug Administration and uses the International Nomenclature for Cosmetic Ingredients. As seen on product labels, Unilever does not use any peanut ingredients in its Personal Care products. Some products do contain tree nut derivatives as shown on the labels. Examples include almond, coconut, kukui, macadamia, pistachio and shea nut variants in certain products. There are no allergenic proteins present in the highly refined nut oils and nut extracts used by Unilever.

Unilever manufacturing facilities follow rigorous cleaning procedures in preparing our products. This is necessary not only for product integrity but also for hygiene purposes. The high level of quality found in Unilever products is assured by our adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices [as stated in the CTFA Quality Assurance Guidelines (2007), ISO GMP Guidelines (2007) and FDA Draft Cosmetic GMPs (2013)]. However, there can be no absolute assurance that all products are free of all possible allergens.

Gluten is a protein found in wheat, rye, barley and processed oats. For ingredient labeling, our company follows the guidelines of the US Food & Drug Administration (FDA) and uses the International Nomenclature for Cosmetics Ingredients (INCI). If any wheat, rye, barley or oat-derived raw materials are in our products, they would be listed on the labels. This includes any hydrolyzed protein from wheat, rye, barley or oats which may contain gluten. We recommend that you consult with your physician as to whether use of grain derivatives in personal care products will cause the symptoms of Celiac-Sprue Disease.

TRESemmé does not use benzene as an ingredient in our products. Any trace amount of benzene detected in the final products usually occurs due to its natural presence in certain raw materials, and we have strict quality controls in place that limit the presence of benzene and ensure compliance with the highest global safety standards.

Our products may contain animal-derived ingredients from normal sustainable animal husbandry, farming or fishery practices such as milk, honey, lanolin, silk etc. Products may also contain processed and denatured animal by-products with established uses such as tallow, keratin, collagen, elastin, etc. In most cases, this is because the ingredient performs a function for which there is no suitable alternative available.

TRESemmé and Unilever have prioritized animal welfare as an important social and ethical issue when developing products. As part of our Sustainable Agricultural Code, we work with suppliers to continuously improve the sourcing of agricultural ingredients.

A recycling symbol can be found on the back label or bottom of most TRESemmé products.

We are on a journey to have all of our products to be recyclable, and today all of our non-black bottles are already recyclable. To make our black bottles recyclable, we are currently developing a new black pigment for our bottles so they can be detected and sorted.

The new bottles are recyclable. The components that are not recyclable are the cap/pump. We are working on improving this going forward.
