The Twisted Half Bun at Charles Youssef Spring/Summer 2017
The SS17 Charles Youssef show at New York Fashion week put an interesting twist on what is usually a highly exclusive event. Using virtual reality, the designer invited fashion and beauty fans from all walks of life to see how his collection was styled. This behind-the-scenes peek gave us a first look at the new must-have up-do by the legendary stylist Orlando Pita, New York Fashion Week Ambassador for TRESemmé.
To complement the delicate motifs and flowing romance of Youssef’s SS17 collection, Pita worked with natural texture to create the half up, half down twisted bun. The relaxed vibes of this style were the perfect accessory for Youssef’s collection, but it’s also a great way to add a tousled edge to any laidback spring look.
Luckily you don’t need to be a top stylist to take this look from the catwalk to the street – here’s how to recreate it yourself.
Step 1: Softness is the key to achieving a romantic finish. Start by washing your locks with TRESemmé Botanique Nourish and Replenish Shampoo and conditioner to help moisturise and smooth the hair shaft before styling. Using your fingertips, apply a small amount of TRESemmé Beauty-Full Volume Mousse from roots to tips before rough drying. The lightweight formulation helps to add texture and body without leaving stiffness or stickiness – your hair needs to move naturally for this half bun to work its magic.
Step 2: Part your hair vertically down the centre, then again horizontally from ear to ear. For now, pull the lower half of your hair into a pony to keep it in place.
Step 3: Take the loose section of hair on one side and twist it back towards the centre of your crown. Once you’re half-way through the twist, split your hair into two sections and then twist these strands around each other. Use a bobby pin to secure the completed twist, then repeat on the opposite side.
Step 4: Once you’ve completed the other side, twist the two pulled back sections around each other to create a wide, flat bun.
Step 5: You can now free your hair from the low pony. Tip: Create gentle 'S' waves using a flat iron if you need more movement.
Step 6: Tame any frizz with a light spray of TRESemmé Firm Hold Styling Hair Spray to complete an effortlessly chic look.
What are you waiting for? Take this runway-ready style and make it your own by playing with the thickness of the bun and pulling out more strands – the more undone the better!
