The 70's Waves as seen at Mara Hoffman FW16
70’s waves got a modern makeover for Mara Hoffman's AW16 show at New York Fashion Week. TRESemmé lead stylist Tyler Laswell created soft, voluminous 70s waves, ensuring models worked the runway wearing touchable retro locks without any hint of old-school stiffness.
This glamorous collection inspired by 70s icons had all the hallmarks of the decade – including psychedelic-style prints in browns and oranges, crushed velvet, voluminous trouser suits and daring deep V-necklines.
Such a strong, standout collection called for a strong model look and a hairstyle that could hold its own. Big, statement waves were the perfect choice, and 70s style floppy hats and bright eye make-up completed a head-turning look on the catwalk.
Soft, voluminous, wavy hair defined this decade and TRESemmé brought them bang up-to-date with sleek centre parts, plenty of shine and lots of natural movement. Backstage, Tyler Laswell showed TRESemmé Style Setters reporter Louise Roe how this autumn 2016 hair trend can work on the street, creating touchable volume and day-to-night waves you can wear anywhere. You’ll only need a hairdryer, curling iron and fingers to achieve this look. Here’s how:
First you’re going to wash hair backwards with the TRESemmé Beauty-Full Volume Reverse Wash System. Use the TRESemmé Beauty-Full Volume Pre-Wash Conditioner first, followed by the shampoo. This cleanses hair while washing away weight for lovely, light volume.
Smooth the TRESemmé Beauty-Full Volume Hair Maximiser over wet hair, then blow-dry for hair that’s voluminous yet soft and smooth. You don’t want to be able to feel the product in the hair.
Wrap sections of hair around a curling iron to create a soft wave, then separate and rough up curls with fingers. Imperfect waves and natural movement take this look from catwalk to street.
Finish with TRESemmé Beauty-Full Volume Hairspray for exceptional hold without crunch.
Take your look back to the glamorous, romantic 70s and wear your soft, voluminous waves with extra va-va-voom and confidence – flares optional!
