The Bouncy Voluminous Hair Trend from FW16
Big, luscious locks never go out of style. Whatever the decade, bouncy hair is never far from the fashion agenda – but va-va-voom volume was one of the big Autumn 2016 hair trends, both on the runway and in the street. Forget stiff styles frozen into obedience by hairspray, though: this look is all about silky, voluminous hair with natural movement.
The AW16 New York Fashion Week shows were awash with enviably bouncy hair – in all shapes and sizes. At BCBG MaxAzria, the quirky collection of asymmetrical skirts and furry sandals were complemented by a tousled, fluid wave. Meanwhile at Diane Von Furstenberg, the models rocked glam 70s blow-outs to enhance her bohemian collection. And at Monse, volume was deconstructed into a downtown wave, perfectly matching the designer’s flowing silk separates and evening wear.
Off the catwalk, TRESemmé Style Setters reporter Louise Roe admired beautiful, bouncy tresses at every turn. Actress and beauty blogger Teni Panosian explained why the volumised style was so popular backstage: “It’s just an effortless, chic and classic look”, she said.
Out on the streets of New York, there were plenty more style setters embracing the bouncy, touchable volume trend. Our street style inspiration nails Upper East Side sophistication, pairing bouncy, loose curls with chic pastels and neat tailoring for a put-together, polished outcome.
Luckily, you don’t need a trip to the salon to achieve gorgeous bounce. Louise caught up with TRESemmé stylist John D for his top styling tips on how to recreate runway-worthy volume at home.
Tools needed to achieve the look: blow-dryer, medium-sized round brush, clips and a soft bristle brush.
Step 1: Reverse your haircare routine. Condition first with TRESemmé Beauty-Full Volume Pre-Wash Conditioner to moisturise and soften, then cleanse with the TRESemmé Beauty-Full Volume Shampoo to wash away any weight.
Step 2: Using your fingers, work TRESemmé Beauty-Full Volume Mousse into damp hair from root to tip. Formulated with Fleximax Volumisers, this blow-dry companion will help you to build serious body, but will still let your hair move.
Step 3: Separating your hair into sections, blow-dry each with a medium-sized round brush. As each section dries, roll the hair into a loose curl and secure with a clip.
Step 4: Let the hair set. This is the most important step – you need to be patient and let the product do its work.
Step 5: Once the hair has completely cooled, release the waves from the clips and gently run your fingers through your hair. Gently brush over your locks with a soft bristle brush to calm any flyaways.
Step 6: Spritz over TRESemmé Beauty-Full Volume Flexible Finish Hairspray to hold the bounce without stiffening your style.
And there you have it – modern, bouncy, touchable volume that’s sure to get you noticed!
