The Personalized Wave as seen at Monse SS17

Longing for soft wavy hair but can never find the right style to suit your locks? Help is finally at hand – a huge trend at New York Fashion Week SS17 was embracing and enhancing your individual hair type, translating into gentle waves that look natural and totally you.

Backstage, TRESemmé New York Fashion Week ambassador and legendary hair stylist Orlando Pita worked with a huge range of different haircuts and textures at the Monse SS17 show to create the style that epitomizes this trend: the Personalized Wave. Pita translated the designer’s deconstructed, seductive collection into a variety of different wavy hair looks for the models – long hair was styled with a classic boho center part, shorter looks were given more texture for an androgynous finish, and there were even the occasional graphic bangs for a tougher edge. For an effortless outcome, Pita concentrated on not forcing a style on any of the different models, instead taking an organic approach and celebrating what made each girl's hair unique – perfectly capturing the Monse SS17 aesthetic and this wavy hair trend.

Meanwhile, on the street, style setters everywhere were rocking the ‘I woke up like this’ look, where wavy hair had an imperfect finish for an effortless result. Ready to find your own Personalized Wave? Here’s a step-by-step guide from Pita himself.

    STEP 1:

It’s best to start with freshly washed hair, so you can layer up the products to achieve the perfect texture for your locks. Lightly cleanse and condition with the TRESemmé Botanique Nourish & Replenish Shampoo and Conditioner, to help restore moisture and smooth strands without weighing your hair down. Then, working in small sections, mist TRESemmé Perfectly (un)Done Sea Salt Spray all the way from root to tip. With sea kelp extract, this non-sticky product helps infuse the hair with texture.

    STEP 2:

Blow dry on a low heat to avoid frizz, running your fingers through as you go to separate the strands and enhance your own individual texture.

    STEP 3:

Next run a small dollop of TRESemmé Extra Hold Gel (approximately the size of a 10p coin) evenly through your hair to create hold and body without stiffness.

    STEP 4:

Time to style. Separate your locks into large sections and one by one and wrap loosely around a 1-inch barrel curling tong – this will create a soft wave. Loosen with your fingers and pump up at the roots for movement.

Mist over a lightweight hairspray to secure the look for the day ahead. TRESemmé Firm Hold Hairspray provides all-over flexible hold that’s also humidity-resistant. And there you have it, the easy way to achieve your own unique take on effortless waves, every day. Don’t be afraid to experiment and tailor this regime to suit your own, individual texture – simply layer up your favourite products together for the perfect finish.
