Leading industry scientists and regulators agree that DMDM hydantoin is safe for use and should not cause hair loss. The ingredient is widely used throughout the beauty industry to prevent harmful growth of bacteria and mold. We use this ingredient in select Tresemmé formulas. Tresemmé does not formulate products with formaldehyde. Select formulas, however, use preservative ingredients that release small amounts of formaldehyde into the product to keep it safe and to stop it from spoiling. Formaldehyde is a chemical that occurs naturally in our environment, and is created by human, animals, and plants cells. The independent US Cosmetic Ingredient Review Expert Panel and Europe’s Scientific Community on Consumer Safety have both confirmed that formaldehyde donors are safe for cosmetic use.
